A posting on official Sony social media account was made fun of by Chinese netizens for promoting its noise-canceling headphones by making use of symphony legend Beethoven's birthday.
"If Beethoven could travel the time tunnel to the present, the master must feel elated while he comes across Sony's noise-canceling headphones, for the device's ability to provide an extravagant listening experience," read a statement posted under the official account for Sony audio products which appeared on Wednesday morning.
And, the picture attached to the posting showed "Beethoven was writing down something on the paper with headphones".
The account is verified by China's version of Twitter, Sina Weibo, as the official Weibo for Sony audio products.
The posting continued to trigger heated discussions, even after it was removed in the morning.
One netizen made it plain, writing "Is that you cured the Beethoven's [deafness]?" And another one suggested Sony's account better to use Van Gogh, instead of Beethoven.
A third netizen wrote the Sony product needs another advertisement for "Sony headphones, a medical miracle, which can make the deaf hear the voice."
Sony China launched its flagship headset wireless noise-canceling headphone WH-1000XM4 in August this year.
The volume of global true wireless stereo (TWS) headsets increased by 32 percent in 2020, and the volume of TWS headsets will exceed 350 million units by 2021, a report released by market analyst firm Canalys showed.
