Chinese netizens sent congratulations to Chinese popular boy band TFBOYS, whose NetEase cloud music concert broke a Guinness World Record for most-viewed paid concert.
The boy band's official Sina Weibo account announced the record by posting a short video on Sunday night.
The concert broadcasted on NetEase Cloud Music, a leading interactive music streaming service provider in China, on August 22, as a celebration of the 7th anniversary of the band's formation. The concert had been viewed by over 786,000 fans, setting the record title for "the most live viewers for a pay-per-view music concert on a bespoke platform," according to the band's video.
Many Chinese netizens congratulated the band on Weibo by commenting that they deserve the honor due to the three members' high popularity.
"As a super fan, I am so proud of them! I can feel that as public celebrities, they keep improving themselves and have achieved a lot of honors in the past years," one Chinese netizen wrote on Weibo.
The boy band TFBOYS, consisting of three members Wang Junkai (Karry Wang), Yi Yangqianxi (Jackson Yee) and Wang Yuan (Roy Wang), debuted on August 6, 2013, at the age of 12 and 13 years old. The latest live-streamed performance was also the group's first online concert since its debut. Many musicians have taken to online shows in 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic has halted live events.
Due to the recent surge in COVID-19 infections in China, especially in the capital Beijing, many cultural events are canceled. For example, Beijing's Happy Valley amusement park on Sunday announced it will suspend the park's night show, including a live music concert scheduled to be held on Thursday, to avoid risks caused by large-scale gatherings amid the coronavirus pandemic.
