Construction work on the hydroelectric Houziyan Dam on the Dadu River in Danba county, Sichuan Province, officially began at a groundbreaking ceremony held Wednesday.

The project is part of the government's efforts in energy saving and emission reduction in the domestic electricity sector.

The project is expected to be completed in 2017.

It is expected to generate annual output of 7 billion kilowatt hours.
