Indonesia on Thursday has opened a consulate general in Shanghai, a press statement from the Foreign Ministry said here on Friday.
Indonesian Ambassador to China Imron Cotan, accompanied by Fu Jihong, deputy director general at the Shanghai Municipal Foreign Affairs Office attended the ceremony.
Cotan said that the opening of the consulate general is a follow-up to a meeting between Indonesian and Chinese foreign ministers on April 19, 2011, and an agreement between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on April 29, 2011.
The statement said that the consulate general is another " milestone" marking progress of bilateral ties between the two countries and is expected to fortify and enhance the ties.
