Luiz Felipe Scolari's Palmeiras set up a Copa do Brasil final against Coritiba after a controversial 1-1 draw with nine-man Gremio at Sao Paulo's Arena Barueri on Thursday.

Palmeiras earned the right to progress to the final due to their 2-0 away victory in the first leg.

In his first match for Palmeiras since being robbed and briefly kidnapped on June 7, Chile international midfielder Jorge Valdivia struck a 72nd-minute equalizer after Fernando had put Gremio ahead six minutes earlier.

Gremio, coached by former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo, were reduced to nine men when Rondinelly and Edison were shown direct red cards for their part in a melee late in the second half. Palmeiras centre-back Henrique was also sent off in the incident.

Brazil's football confederation was set to decide the dates for the two-legged final on Friday.

The winner of the Copa do Brasil will earn a direct berth in next year's Copa Libertadores.
