German Ambassador to Ghana Eberhard Schanze handed over electronic copies of bilateral agreements signed between Ghana and Germany to Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs Mohammed Mumuni on Tuesday.
This was to assist the government of Ghana to recover some of its vital data that were destroyed during a fire outbreak at the offices of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in October 2009.
Receiving the records, Mumuni remarked Germany has over the years proven to be a valued and strategic partner with Ghana.
"This is an important archival material for us to be able to close some gaps that exist in the institutional memory of this ministry and of our country, especially in its relations with your country," Mumuni stressed, recalling the fire had created a big void in terms of some valued documents, working tools and equipment.
The German ambassador said the effort of providing the electronic copies of bilateral and multilateral agreements consumed in the fire was done out of the spirit of cooperation that existed between the two countries.
"We have done hundreds of projects here together and have signed agreements on several areas including taxation and avoidance of double taxation," he noted.
Fire swept through the nine-storey building housing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in October 2009, causing substantial loss of property and more importantly archival records of the ministry's activities over the years.
China is currently building a brand new office complex for the foreign ministry at the cost of 15 million US dollars; the project is expected to be completed by February next year.
