Authorities in Liuzhou, South China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region issued a bonus incentive scheme saying that people catching a piranha will be rewarded with 1,000 yuan ($150). It was part of a campaign to wipe out the deadly fish that recently attacked a local resident. However, the incentive was soon declared void.

After the release of the news, some sellers on e-commerce website Taobao sold piranhas priced at 15 yuan, with a shipping fee of 12 yuan from Ningbo, Zhejiang Province to Liuzhou. However, the page soon vanished.

Some said, "It's cheap to buy a piranha and people can earn at least 900 yuan in profit."

In other words, the local government had not predicted how easily the piranha pests could make local people rich through a simple scam.

On July 12, massive public pressure pushed the campaign to catch the piranhas and the bonus incentive to be scrapped.
