At least five Russian servicemen have been killed in separate attacks in the North Caucasus region, the Interior Ministry said Monday.
"Three servicemen of the Interior Ministry's troops were killed, three more injured in what is suspected to be a suicide bombing," the ministry's press service said in a statement.
The National Anti-terror Committee said an unspecified number of civilians also were wounded in the attack that occurred when two suicide bombers blew up an armored police car in the Chechen capital of Grozny.
In addition, two servicemen from a special police unit were fatally shot and another injured in an attack on their car in Dagestan, also in North Caucasus.
Chechnya saw fighting between Russian federal troops and rebels from 1994 to 1996 and from 1999 to 2009. The neighboring republic of Dagestan also suffers from frequent sporadic violence and other terrorist activities.
