China hopes to work with the US and other Asia-Pacific countries to build an open, inclusive and mutually beneficial Asia-Pacific region, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said on Wednesday.

Speaking at a joint press conference with visiting US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Yang said China and the US have the most interwinded interests and frequent interactions about the region.

The current international situation is undergoing profound and complicated changes and the world economic recovery still appears grave, Yang said. He called on both sides to work together to develop a positive and pragmatic relationship, which is also the common aspiration of people who live in Asia-Pacific countries.

"We always hope the US can correctly view the regional situation when making its Asia-Pacific policies so that they are in line with the times and the aspirations of the people for peace, cooperation and development," Yang said.

Yang said China and the US should strengthen consultations in Asia-Pacific affairs, and the two countries should increase exchanges before the upcoming APEC Summit and make preparations for the East Asia Summit at the end of the year.

Clinton arrived in Beijing Tuesday evening for a two-day visit at the invitation of Yang. She met with Chinese President Hu Jintao Wednesday morning and is due to meet with Premier Wen Jiabao, Vice Premier Li Keqiang and State Councilor Dai Bingguo in the afternoon.

This is her second trip to China this year. In May, she attended the fourth round of the China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue as special representative of President Barack Obama.

The visit is part of Clinton's six-nation tour starting on Aug. 30, which also takes her to the Cook Islands, Indonesia, East Timor, Brunei and Russia.
