Global Times (Chinese edition) commented on November 21 that this round of leadership changes will deeply influence China's official structure, from the central government to local governments, in the next five years. Such a structure is extremely important in a period when China is striving to develop itself.
Running China is like a big game of chess on a chessboard that is too large. It demands that each part try its best to build a perfect overall situation and not do anything to cause trouble. The reason why local governments are drawing more and more attention is because that they have already started to play a major role in deciding the overall Chinese political landscape.
Chinanews.com said that officials recently appointed at all levels seem to be younger, more knowledgeable and more experienced.
Sing Tao Daily opinioned that Sun Zhengcai, a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the former secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, was appointed secretary of the CPC Chongqing Municipal Committee on November 20. The authority also announced that the mayor of Shanghai, Han Zheng, will replace Yu Zhengsheng as secretary of the CPC Shanghai Municipal Committee. The new appointments will help young officials gain experience and train themselves in local governments.
Hong Kong-based
Takungpao commented on November 21 that Zhang Dejiang and Yu Zhengsheng, both members of the Standing Committee of Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, will not take additional positions as local government officials. This means that they will focus on the work of the central government and undertake heavier responsibilities in the overall situation of the Party and the country.
Takungpao.com commented on November 21 that after going through the lists of members of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee in the last 10 years, we found that more value has been placed on officials with experience working in the west regions of China.
Selection as a high-level CPC official had relied on having experience working in coastal cities, but that situation is gradually changing. Meanwhile, it shows that the CPC leadership puts value on officials who have worked for a long time under the tough environment in the west regions of China.
United Daily News said that from now until the annual two sessions in March 2013, important officials from the CPC Central Committee, heads of ministries and commissions and local government chiefs will be reshuffled. Officials to be selected will tend to be younger, more knowledgeable and their experience more complete and comprehensive.
