"Day of Xinjiang" held in Osaka

A special event focused on China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, was held in the western Japanese city of Osaka on Wednesday evening,attracting more than 100 people of all walks of life in Japan's Kansai region.

The event "Day of Xinjiang", organized by the Chinese Consulate- General in Osaka, included a photo and products exhibition of Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region apart from a ceremony of scholarship awarded to outstanding self-financed students from Xinjiang.

Speaking at the event, Liu Yiren, Chinese Consul General in Osaka briefed the audience on Xinjiang's recent fast economic and social development.

He said that local government in Xinjiang attaches great importance to students who came from Xinjiang and are studying abroad, adding that the scholarships he will award embodies the concern of the local government for the students.

Liu then invited a total of nine students from Xinjiang, who have been studying at higher educational institutions in Japan's Kansai Region, such as Kyoto University and Kobe University, into the central stage of the room and presented scholarships to them.

Abudurexiti Abuduletifu, a postgraduate student at Kyoto University, expressed on behalf of the invited students thanks to the special arrangements by the consulate general, saying that the awards certainly strengthen their studying motivation further.

"We want to most apply our studying results at the universities in Kansai after returning to the country, or in all places wherever we will work," he said.

In the event room, there were more than 100 color photographs displayed, which showed magnificent landscapes and different life styles and rituals well preserved by nearly 50 ethnic groups. Meanwhile, some local products, such as dried fruits, hats and fabrics made from superior cotton grown in the autonomous region, were also on display.
