Dubai-based IT giant Datamatrix is going to launch the first independent internet search engine for the region in May 2013, company's managing director Ali Al Kamali said Monday.
Speaking at the one-day congress Ajman Investment in Technology Conference, Kamali said the search engine will be called GCCsearch.
Unlike global web search bellwethers such as Google.com or Yahoo search, GCCsearch will only provide data, information and knowledge of and about the six member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). The 1981-founded GCC, a political, economic and defense union, comprises Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.
"GCCsearch is the result of six years development and programming work," Kamali told Xinhua.
The search engine will be in English language and will be administered by a Datamatrix-team of 35 IT engineers and programmers, said Kamali.
