The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker is a ballet that was originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E.T.A. Hoffmann's story The Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Tchaikovsky's score has become one of his most famous compositions. The show is considered one of the classical performances for the Christmas season every year.

Shanghai New Year's Concert 2013
The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra has invited Alan Gilbert, the current music director of the New York Philharmonic to conduct its New Year concert, boasting an exciting program for local traditional music fans. The performance starts with P. I. Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker, Act II, followed by Bernstein's Symphonic Dances from West Side Story and ends with Gershwin's An American in Paris.

Roméo et Juliette
Roméo et Juliette is a French musical based on English writer William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, with music and lyrics by French composer Gérard Presgurvic. It made its debut in Paris on February 14, 2000 and became an instant hit. The show has toured in London, Amsterdam, Moscow, Vienna, Seoul and Taipei.

The Blue Bone 2012 Tour
Regarded as the godfather of Chinese rock music, Cui Jian is coming to the city with his band this month. He brought Western-style music to Chinese mainland youngsters in the early 1980s and made a huge impact on the whole generation. Cui integrates jazz, hip pop and electronic music into his works and expresses the dreams and passions of people born in the 1960s and 1970s.

World in Mirror
History can also be found and reflected in beautiful forms such as these: exquisitely crafted mirrors made of bronze. Cotsen, a Los Angeles businessman, philanthropist and art collector purchased his first Chinese bronze mirrors in Hong Kong in the early 1950s. Today his collection contains thousands of pieces, including substantial assemblages of textiles, basketry and folk art. His collection now makes its public debut at the Shanghai Museum.

Russian Contemporary Impressionism: Gennadi Bernadsky
Infused with color and sunlight, the works of Gennadi Bernadsky express the joy and beauty of his life. Born in Russia in 1956, Bernadsky is the son of the well- known Ukrainian artist Valentin Bernadsky, whose talent is widely recognized in Russia and abroad. He graduated from the Russian Academy of Fine Arts in St Petersburg in 1980 and became a full member of the prestigious Union of Artists of Russia in 1984.

Li Zijian Oil Painting: Humanity and Love
Born in Shaoyang, Hunan Province in 1954, Chinese artist Li Zijian became famous for his oil painting Nanking Massacre. In the past two decades, Li has devoted himself to the creation of paintings that reflect "humanity and love." He
began his world tour exhibition of the same name, Humanity and Love in Beijing in April, 2010. After visiting more than 20 major cities in China, the show arrives in Shanghai this month, and will feature more than 240 oil paintings by the artist.

Lee Kit: Every Breath You Take
Minsheng Art Museum presents Hong Kong artist Lee Kit's first solo exhibition in the mainland, featuring photographs, paintings and a "pseudo-karaoke installation." Known for integrating the boundaries between art and daily life, his work focuses on daily objects and ordinary practices. Lee was born in Hong Kong in 1978 and now is working and living in Hong Kong and Taipei.

Shi Jing: The Remains of the Day
Born in Yunnan Province, the artist Shi Jing has devoted his career to experimenting with time and light. While doing this, he became interested in how the play of light reflects on the surfaces of objects. Shi has created an installation piece featuring a 24-hour news channel projected onto a mirror ball, dispersing a rainbow of hues onto the walls of the gallery. It is through this process that Shi "completely negates the content of the broadcast."
