Myanmar government forces have launched air attack on the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) transited at point -771 hill and seized heavy weapons, arms and ammunition over the past three days, official media reported Thursday.
The Dec. 30, 2012 counter-attack was launched after the government logistic troops fell under series of attack by the KIA for three times earlier with the last on Dec. 23, 2012, the report said.
The government said that it has negotiated with the KIA for 11 times and the last talks failed to be conducted on Oct. 30, 2012 due to the absence of military leaders from the KIA side.
The authorities claimed that after the failure of the peace talks, the KIA has stepped up attacks on government police outpost in Phakant since Dec. 18, 2012, blowing up Mandalay-Myitkyina freight train on Dec. 21 and storming Taungni militia outpost on Dec. 30.
