Myanmar government vowed to continue peace talks with the Kachin Independence Army(KIA) despite recent air strike on the ethnic armed group, a press release of the government said Friday.

The government admitted that it had launched air attack on the KIA transited at point-771 hill and seized heavy weapons, arms and ammunition from the camp.

The statement defended that the government launched offensive and occupied the area based by KIA to cut the road link between Myitkyina and Bahmo which is a non-residential area of villagers.

The counter-attack was launched after the government logistic troops fell under series of attack by the KIA for three times earlier with the last on Dec. 23, 2012.

The government claimed that it has negotiated with the KIA for 11 times and the last talks took place in vain on Oct. 30, 2012 with the absence of military leaders from the KIA side to discuss important issues.

The authorities claimed that after the failure of the last peace talks, the KIA has stepped up attacks on government police outpost in Phakant since Dec. 18, 2012, blowing up Mandalay- Myitkyina freight train on Dec. 21 and storming Taungni militia outpost on Dec. 30.
