Pei Jiyang, a senior student from Peking University, has booked over 200,000 train tickets for schoolmates and migrant workers over the last three years, the Yangcheng Evening News reported Friday.
Netizens have given Pei the nickname Tickets King.
Last Thursday, Pei published his 2013 railway tickets booking guide, providing strategies for people to book train tickets during the Spring Festival period, the busiest time for railway transportation in China.
Pei says that a shortage of railway capacity and skewed ticket distribution are key problems, leading to difficulty for people to book train tickets during the Spring Festival period.
However, Pei told the Yangcheng Evening News, "It is actually not so hard to book tickets, if we choose a proper strategy."
"For example, it is very hard for most passengers to book tickets directly to their destination, especially over long distances. We have to try to book tickets and transfer trains," Pei said.
In three years, Pei has helped around 80,000 people buy over 200,000 tickets, he estimates.
Since students can book tickets two months in advance, Pei mainly helps migrant workers at Peking University buy train tickets back home during busy times.
"I help them without any charge," said Pei.
