Eight officials from southwest China's Chongqing implicated in a recent sex video scandal will not attend the city's annual legislative meeting, official sources said Friday.

Four officials involved in the scandal are delegates of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress, while four others have seats in the congress's public gallery, according to the general office of the Chongqing Municipal People's Congress.

The eight asked for leave on Friday and will not attend the congress' annual meeting, which will open on Saturday, according to the office.

Municipal authorities in Chongqing announced Thursday that ten officials were sacked for allegedly appearing in sex videos secretly filmed by a criminal gang for the purpose of extortion.

The criminal ring allegedly hired women to seduce officials and secretly filmed their sexual acts in order to extort the officials, according to police investigations.

One video clip featuring an official later confirmed to be Communist Party of China (CPC) Secretary of Chongqing's Beibei district Lei Zhengfu went viral online in November, prompting an investigation and leading to Lei's sacking within ten days of the scandal breaking.

According to the city's disciplinary authorities, the officials involved in the scandal include district-level government officials, CPC chiefs and executives of state-owned enterprises.
