More than a dozen Taliban insurgents have been killed in one-day operations in different provinces, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Wednesday morning.

"In the latest raids against terrorists, Afghan National Police (ANP) supporting by army and the NATO-led coalition forces conducted six cleanup operations in Kunar, Laghman, Balkh, Kandahar, Ghazni and Helmand province, killing 14 armed Taliban insurgents over the last 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

Four insurgents were detained and six others wounded, the statement said, adding the ANP also seized 22 AK-47 guns, four machine guns and 18 rounds of different mines in the above raids.

The Taliban insurgent group, which has been waging an insurgency of more than one decade, has yet to make comments.

The Afghan security forces in partnership with the NATO-led coalition troops have intensified operations against Taliban and other militant groups recently.

Figures released by the Interior Ministry showed more than 120 insurgents had been killed and nearly 210 others detained during military operations since beginning this month across the insurgency-hit country.
