Venezuelan Vice President Nicolas Maduro on Tuesday denounced conspiratorial plan from the United States, announcing the expulsion of the US Military Attach, David del Monaco.
Maduro said the government had discovered that the US officer had acted against Venezuela's military, by getting in touch with officers and proposing a plan to destabilize the South American country.
"He has been expelled, has 24 hours to leave Venezuela. We have issued a legal notice to the US government," Maduro said, after a meeting with key political and military leaders of the Bolivarian Revolution, among which were 20 cabinet ministers and governors.
Maduro said that the US government and enemies within the country have conducted a "psychological warfare" against President Hugo Chavez and Venezuela.
He said Chavez's enemies had damaged his health with lies and rumors, comparing it to the death of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat who some believe was poisoned.
He announced that a special committee will be set up to investigate the possibility that Chavez's illness was caused by an enemy attack.
Maduro also confirmed that President Chavez has "severe infection," hence the decision to hold the meeting of key officials "to share this information."
