Three Greek former ministers were prosecuted on Wednesday over inaccuracies in their past wealth statements, judicial authorities announced.

Conservative Petros Doukas, who has served as Deputy Minister of Finance and Foreign Affairs, was prosecuted for failing to justify the investment of about 1 million euros (1.3 million US dollars) in 2009, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.

Yorgos Voulgarakis, a conservative former Minister of Public Order, Culture and Shipping, and Yannos Papantoniou, a socialist former Economy and Defense Minister, were prosecuted for failing to declare accurately wealth assets which belong to their spouses in their tax declarations since 2007.

In both cases, the data emerged during a marathon probe which started in the autumn in Greece regarding the so-called Lagarde list of more than 2,000 Greek depositors in a Swiss bank who are currently investigated by authorities for possible tax evasion.

In January, the parliament voted in favor of the launch of a criminal investigation into former Finance Minister George Papaconstantinou over the mishandling of the list he received in 2010 from Christine Lagarde, his French counterpart at the time and now head of the International Monetary Fund in the context of efforts to counter tax dodging in the debt-laden country.

On Monday, former Defense Minister Akis Tsochatzopoulos, a socialist heavyweight for three decades, was sentenced to eight years imprisonment and had a luxurious home confiscated for failing to declare all his assets in his wealth declaration.
