The Old Cinderella, the first Chinese film in collaboration with Israel, launched its first press conference at the Dragon Lake Princess Hotel in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, on March 25th.
As the first joint film project between China and Israel since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, The Old Cinderella has progressed smoothly since shooting started earlier this month in Guangzhou.
The film is directed by Wu Bai and produced by Lu Chuan, whose movie productions include The Missing Gun, Mountain Patrol and The City of Life and Death, and have won great success. The film also features a top-line cast including actor Pan Yueming and actress Zhang Jingchu.
In the movie, Zhang will play a divorced mother named Xu Ke who has a 5-year-old son. She got divorced because her husband, Liu Zheng (played by Pan Yueming) had an affair. Despite the failure of her marriage and unemployment, the single mother over 30 does not give up hope and begins to chase a new dream.
Her charm makes the rich and handsome Kang Shao (acted by Kenji Wu) throw himself at her feet. Unexpectedly, Xu Ke's ex-husband realizes her importance in his life and wants to win her heart again. Then a battle begins between the rich and handsome Kang Shao and the ex-husband who is father of her son.
The film is based on the popular novel Ruguo Buneng Haohao Ai (if you can't love well). Written by Gao Ya'nan, the novel is loved by thousands of white-collar ladies because of its humor and straightforward dialogue.
Moreover, the movie is highlighted by covering current hot topics such as leftover ladies, urban divorces and the fuerdai, or rich second generation.
"The film will bring female audience joy and tell the male audience members how to get along with women," said Zhang Jingchu.
Actress Zhang Jingchu was supposed to self-direct the film, but she couldn't make it due to last-minute scheduling problems. Still, she expressed her willingness to be a director.
"I had some ideas about the film in the preparation phase, so Lu Chuan and I assisted director Wu Bai in completing the movie during shooting. I won't give up my intention of being a director," she said, "and I will try to get some opportunities in the future."
The film's shooting in China has almost come to an end. In early April, the team will shoot some scenes in Tel Aviv - Israel's financial center.
Some tourism insiders predict that traveling to Israel might be heated up by Chinese citizens once the film is released, just like the increase in Thailand tourism resulted as a consequence of last year's hottest film Lost in Thailand.
