During the ongoing fifth BRICS Summit in South Africa, the five developing countries are getting even closer to each other. What this means in terms of international politics has sparked discussion.
BRICS is obviously different from the G7, which is led by Washington. BRICS is a bloc of five nations that are all on an equal footing, and their differences in values are self-evident. All of BRICS' ambitions should be based on these facts.
However, the cooperation between BRICS nations breaks down old barriers and highlights the limitations of Western forces in terms of global governance. This is in line with current global realities.
BRICS countries will have to face some problems when seeking to deepen their multilateral cooperation. But they are at least encouraging each other, and increasingly distancing their interests from Western ones. This will further define fairness and justice worldwide, gradually weaken Western dominance over global affairs, and enhance the influence of developing countries.
In the era of globalization, developing and developed countries are closely engaging with each other in terms of economics. But they have different goals and it is no less difficult to achieve a consensus. Bloc politics seem to have become a solution, especially for the US-led West.
Each nation in BRICS has a different political situation, but they all have totally different political goals from their Western counterparts. This may enable them to explore a brand-new model for multilateral cooperation among countries. This is more in accordance with the worlds' diversity.
The G7 has long played a dominant role in global political and economic affairs. But the G7's halo is fading due to the relative decline of Western countries.
BRICS, which was once just a witty concept, has become a significant player. The process seems to have been smooth. None of them ever sets forcible objectives or seeks any confrontation. It is a platform for the countries to speak the truth, discover and create opportunities, as well as further boost cooperation. This should be maintained.
China has no ambition to dominate BRICS, and will not purposely seek to raise its role in this mechanism.
The biggest method by which China is improving its position on the global stage still relates to the nation's domestic development. Ideally, Beijing would like to maintain a low profile while showing respect to other countries. But in this era of diplomatic democracy, it can only seek balance while safeguarding the concrete interests of the nation. More participation in multilateral international cooperation can provide us with more space and leverage in policy maintenance and adjustment.
BRICS nations should enhance cooperation with more details. The five countries are boosting this with ease. Western anxiety stems from its own greed for power. This is why Western countries appear more tired at the moment than BRICS countries that are much poorer relatively.
