Turkey's divorce rate jumped by 14 percent over the past 10 years, reaching 1.6 per 1,000 by the end of 2012, according to official statistics released on Thursday.
Turkish Statistical Institute said in a report that Turkey's marriage rate and divorce rate in 2012 is 1.9 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, noting that the divorce rate is much higher.
A total of 603,751 people got married in 2012, while 123,325 were divorced.
Cengiz Hortoglu, lawyer specialized in divorce cases, told Xinhua that domestic violence, adultery, unhappy sex life and financial troubles are among the major factors that lead to divorce.
However, divorce rate in Turkey is still significantly lower than that in Europe, reflecting stronger family ties in its social structure.
