Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on behalf of government and people of Indonesia has sent a letter of condolence over the passing of former British prime minister Margaret Thatcher, Indonesian foreign ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.

Besides contribution to her country, the late Baroness Thatcher will always be remembered as a figure who has influenced various international issues of her time, the statement said.

In this time of mourning, our thoughts and prayers are with the family and may they find strength and solace during this difficult time, it added.

Margaret Thatcher died on Monday at the age of 87 after her long struggle with stroke. She served as the prime minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990.
