Korean Peninsula
China and the United States today recommitted ourselves to find a peaceful solution. And we say to Kim Jong Un and the government of Korea of the DPRK that they have an obvious choice here which is to join us in an effort to try to find a negotiated resolution.
China's stance on the Korean Peninsula is consistent. No matter what happens, China will stick to denuclearization and peace on the peninsula and settling the issue through dialogue.

Asian issues
Issues regarding the Korean peninsula, the challenge of Iran and nuclear weapons, Syria and the Middle East, and economies around the world are in need of a boost.

 On Sino-US ties

Global Times: China visit a test to Kerry’s 'gentle' side
The definition of Sino-US diplomacy has become blurrier and more confusing. In the past we believed that it meant the leaders of both countries visited each other, talking about trade or military affairs. Now many have realized that "Sino-US diplomacy" has also been underlying in the frictions in the South China Sea and the Diaoyu Islands, as well as the Korean Peninsula. The role the US has been playing in these areas makes China uneasy.

Yang Xiyu, Sr. Research Fellow, China Institute of International Studies
"Both sides will exchange views on some existing disputes. I don’t think solutions can be found only through discussion. But it does help to develop a better and mature idea of managing differences."

 On Kerry’s visit

Xinhua: Kerry's visit fresh opportunity to hone US-China cooperation
In a deeply interconnected world economy, confrontation can incur immeasurable costs. As a seasoned and thoughtful diplomat, Kerry can help guide China-US relations through the rough waters of disputes and international changes into mutually beneficial interaction.

Yang Xiyu, Research Fellow, China Institute of International Studies
"This visit takes the task to better understand the attitude, policy and directions of China’s new leaders to Obama, and vice versa.....especially the rebalancing strategy which seems to me make the region more imbalanced."

 On Korean Peninsula

Xinhua: Washington key to settling Korean Peninsula crisis
The crux of the long-running Korean Peninsula issue lies in the lack of mutual trust between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States. Kerry's visit provides a fine opportunity for Washington to untie the knot it has tied with Pyongyang.

Shi Yinhong, Director, US Study Center, Renmin University
"If compared with last three weeks, I think the US began to realize dialogue is not only indispensable, but far from sufficient. I think that John Kerry might talk with Chinese leaders on how to mobilize diplomacy to find an exit for the current dangerous situation. "

"Chinse and American leaders need to have a face-to-face negotiation on the tensions on the Korean Peninsula. They should evaluate the current situation, discuss the measure they’ve already taken and offer their suggestions. China hopes the US will be restrained in its actions which may further aggravate the situation. I believe some concrete and substantial agreement will be worked out this time."

 On cyber security

Robert Hormats, US under secretary of state for economic growth, energy and the environment
The United States and China have huge potential in cooperation regarding the development of Internet industry and governance. More cooperation instead of confrontation is needed in this regard.
