The People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) will conduct a sweeping survey of all of its construction projects and real estate holdings, the PLA Daily reported Friday.
At a meeting held Thursday to discuss the plan, Zhao Keshi, head of the PLA's General Logistics Department, said the survey will greatly help improve both the capacity and quality of the army's logistics.
To optimize resources, Zhao vowed to make the army's construction work more scientific. He also called for regulations and procedures to be strictly followed in the army's construction work, said the report.
Zhao called for comprehensive examinations of all construction projects and real estate holdings, as well as for the creation of standards for project examinations and approvals, land transfers, housing rentals and accountability.
"It could help the army find more housing resources and save more funds," said Li Jie, a military expert in Beijing, told the Global Times on Friday.
In past years, given the uneven housing distribution system, some people who had left the army for good still occupied army property while serving officers could not access the housing they were entitled to, according to Li.
It's also good for strengthening clean governance work in the army, Lin Zhe, an anti-corruption expert with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee, told the Global Times on Friday.
"The central government requires all government departments to register their real estate and the PLA is no exception," Lin said.
