The peaceful ouster of Egypt's Islamist President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday won't influence Hamas or the Gaza Strip, an official from the Islamic movement said.

Hamas movement, which had violently seized control of the Gaza Strip in June 2007, is an extension to the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group, to which Morsi belongs.

The Hamas official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, described the situation in Egypt as "dangerous," however, adding " it won't influence the situation in the Gaza Strip or his movement. "

Hamas officials on Monday declined to comment on the situation in Egypt, where millions of people took to streets calling on Morsi to quit, saying it is an Egyptian internal affair.

When Morsi was elected as the president of Egypt, Hamas supporters, officials and militants rallied in the Gaza Strip to celebrate the "victory of the MB movement."

"Hamas movement didn't lose anything when (former Egyptian president) Hosni Mubarak was ousted and it won't lose anything when Morsi was ousted," asserted the Hamas source, who expressed hope that peace and stability prevail in Egypt.
