Flight delay beating

Three Shanghai passengers, who were angry about their delayed flight, have been detained and fined after beating China Eastern Airlines ground staff, Shanghai Morning Post reported Sunday.

The passengers quarreled with two female workers and beat them up around 2 am on Saturday at Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, after their Linyi-bound flight was pushed back because of rainy weather. The passengers, in their 40s and 60s, are being held for 10 days and fined varying amounts between 200 yuan ($32) and 500 yuan for attacking the staff, who suffered soft tissue injuries.

Web users have shaken their heads at the passengers and pointed fingers at China's delayed domestic flights.

"The attackers lack manners," a Sina Weibo user said. "But the explanations on flight delays from air company personnel are perfunctory and always repeat the same thing, irritating passengers."

Other Web users attributed the incident to inadequate service from Chinese airline companies, criticizing airlines for using bad weather as a pretext to account for delays.

"These kind of incidents happen when airline companies give vague and unreasonable explanations," said another Sina Weibo user who goes by the handle "Ji strong."

Some said that airline company management is the key party to blame for such circumstances, given that they do nothing to prevent flights from constantly being delayed. Sina Weibo user Mitao mitao who claimed to be a flight attendant suggested the government "expand the area of civil aviation airspace, even just a little bit, to help to ease the problem of flight delays."

'Smiling like a flower'

Described by their company as "Smiling like a flower," flight attendants from Shenzhen airlines have started wearing their makeup a new way to welcome the company's upcoming 20th anniversary - but Web users say that the look is just wrong.

Seen through photos online, the change in appearance that took effect June 1, according to Guangzhou-based Nandu Daily, features heavily-blushed cheeks and lips boldly rouged in bright red.

But Web users say that the flight attendants are wearing way too much makeup, which makes them look overdone "like a Japanese geisha." Others described them as "ghostlike," saying that they have too much foundation caked on, which unnaturally whitens their faces.

"It's a bit scary to look at, especially at night," Sina Weibo user Fennu de Woniu said.

Many commented that they would no longer fly Shenzhen Airlines due to the awful new makeup, while some joked that it was designed to help flight attendants avoid being sexually harassed by passengers. Others said the airline needs to focus more on making flights more prompt, comfortable and cheaper for passengers.
