Local police in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on June 30 shot dead a Uyghur man who allegedly attacked a police officer and injured another two with a knife during a house search, an official speaking on condition of anonymity told the Global Times Wednesday.

The incident occurred in Atush of the Qizilsu Kyrgyz Autonomous Prefecture a few days after a deadly riot broke out in Turpan Prefecture that killed at least 35 people a week before the fourth anniversary of the July 5 riots that left some 200 people dead.
