Firefighters in Shenyang, Liaoning Province answered an unusual call of duty on July 23 when they helped bathe a local teen suffering from cerebral palsy and weighing over 150 kilograms.

Seven firefighters used bed sheets to carry Xiaofeng (pseudonym), 19, from his bedroom, to the bathroom, local news portal hsxiang.com reports.

Xu Zhaoyang, leader of the crew, left a note for Xiaofeng's mother, Ma Xiaoqiu, after bathing and returning the teen to his bedroom. The note read: "Here is my phone number. Do not hesitate to call me if you need help from us."

Ma, who in addition to Xiaofeng cares for another child with cerebral palsy, was moved to tears.

She said Xiaofeng, who is mute, had clapped his hands excitedly to show his gratitude to the firefighters as they bathed him.

"My maternal instinct tells me to embrace every day with optimism for the well-being of my children, " said Ma.

It is not the first time Xiaofeng has received help from Shenyang’s compassionate firefighters, who first helped the boy in 2011 when he and his family moved in the house.
