Search for missing Chinese continues after Kabul killings

A total five Chinese nationals were attacked on August 9 in Kabul, capital of Afghanistan, resulting in three dead and one missing, with another found alive and is currently in the custody of the Chinese Embassy in Afghanistan. According to embassy officials on August 10, a search is being conducted for the missing Chinese and a criminal investigation is underway.

Sher Ali, owner of the apartment where the five victims lived
[Ali ] was unsure what the renters did. He said he had signed the rental agreement for $450 a month with a Chinese Muslim, a man the landlord thought to be pious. The landlord said that man had since been picked up for questioning by agents he believed to be with the Afghan intelligence service.
"All I know is that the man I rented the apartment to was a good Muslim."

Multiple-pronged approach suggested to boost safety of Chinese nationals overseas
Of course, under international norms, every host country has a solemn obligation to protect the legal rights of Chinese nationals living, studying or travelling there and guarantee their personal and property safety. And if anything dangerous happens to them, the host country need to act quickly to bring them back to safety and make sure the justice is served and the criminals are held accountable.

Approximately 80 Chinese reside in Afghanistan, mainly conducting business involving building materials, commodity wholesale and restaurants. Most rent cheap apartments and cannot afford security guards.
