US federal government recorded a budget deficit of 97.6 billion US dollars in July after registering the largest monthly budget surplus in June for the current fiscal year, US Treasury Department figures revealed Monday.
The federal government raked in a revenue of 200 billion dollars last month, and reported outlays of 297.6 billion dollars in the same month.
The budget gap for the first ten months of the current fiscal year starting in October last year totaled 607.4 billion dollars.
Due to the ballooning entitlement spending, waning government revenue, as well as massive spending on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US federal government's budget deficit has surpassed 1 trillion dollars for four consecutive years under President Barack Obama's watch.
