The China Meteorological Administration formally counted the rainy days of a Taiwan singer's tour schedule on the Chinese mainland to total about 60 percent of it, less than the 80 percent-figure that Net users calculated, it said on its official website.
Taiwan singer Jam Hsiao has been mocked as a "Rain God" by Chinese Net users, after realizing that most of his performances have been rained out since his concert in Beijing on July 21, 2012 was affected by a major rainstorm that soaked the capital.
Hsiao's following concert in Shanghai was canceled on August 8, 2012 due to Typhoon Haikui. Then on November 5, his concert in Tianjin was suspended due to rain. Net users have dubbed his concerts as the "South-to-North Water Diversion Project."
Net users again calculated his tour schedule in March, figuring out that 83.3 percent of his shows fell under rainy weather.
The weather website's editors examined his concerts from 2012, finding that 26 out of his 43 scheduled performance days saw rain, or 60.46 percent.
Out of the 43 concert days, Hsiao visited Beijing five times, with rain affecting three of those trips on June 19, July 1 and July 31.
Based on the data, other Net users said that it may be more accurate to describe Hsiao as someone who enjoys visiting the city during its rainy season rather than as a "Rain God."
