Fifty-four-year-old Feng Mingshan has lived in a cave for more than 20 years in the mountainous region near Gaobajie village of Shanyang county in Shangluo, Shaanxi Province, which has made him "introverted."
A quiet man, Feng, said that he found the cave when he was young many years ago.
Set on a cliff about 50 meters above ground level, the cave has a pile of stones that block the entrance as a door.
"The cave was kind of small before, so I used a hammer to enlarge the space from the inside," he said.
"I also made a path to the cave and fixed small ridges into the cliff, which act as steps. It's cool in the summer."
But his younger brother, Feng Mingxue, said that Feng is "unsociable, as he does not communicate with others."
Township head Xu Min said that local officials are still trying to convince Feng to return to his village - after he was diagnosed and temporarily treated for intermittent psychosis in 2011.
