An agricultural co-op in Baoding, Hebei Province is pumped over a giant 100-kilogram pumpkin harvested during their first year of growing newly-introduced genetically-modified vegetables.
Farmers at the Feijian Agricultural Cooperative in Laiyuan county explain they began growing the GM pumpkins, along with other vegetables such as peppers and tomatoes, on a trial basis, in order to help alleviate poor crop yields in impoverished areas, chinanews.cn reported September 9.
The co-op has already received orders for their genetically-modified vegetables from nearby Beijing markets.
