Uganda's football governing body, Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has named the women's U-20 team which leaves on Thursday, ahead of a 2014 preliminary round World Cup qualifier against South Sudan.
Rogers Mulindwa, the FA's spokesman announced on Wednesday that the team handled by Edward Kaziba and assisted by Lisa Berg will depart for the weekend match to be held in South Sudan's Juba on Saturday.
"We need to give this team a lot of assistance because when they qualify they will face Egypt at the next level of the qualifiers," Mulindwa told Xinhua in an interview.
Uganda and new comers South Sudan are the only teams in the African Zone who have been drawn to play in the preliminary round. The second leg will be played between Sept. 27, 28 and 29 at Nakivubo Stadium in Kampala.
Besides Uganda, seventeen African teams will compete in the qualifiers for the tournament which will take place in Canada.
Tanzania, the one to beat in the Council for East and Central African Football Associations region, will open the first round campaign against Mozambique. The winning team between Tanzania and Mozambique will face either Botswana or South Africa in the second round.
Other African teams that will play in the qualifiers include; Uganda, South Sudan, South Africa, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Tanzania, Tunisia and Zambia.
Uganda's team: Ruth Aluro, Daniela Favor Nanbatya, Sandra Nabweteme, Jeninga Awadifo, Tracy Okiror, Naume Nagadya, Hsafah Nassuna, Lukia Queen, Ritah Kivumbi, Viola Nambi, Stella Kaliba Nassuna, Doroty Nakato, Zainah Namukasa, Sylvia, Nakazibwe, Mary Babirye, Adams Kemisa, Phiona Katiti, Shadia Mutebi, Brenda Namusisis, Phiona Asimwe.
