The Chinese embassy has confirmed that two Chinese citizens were killed when Lao Airlines flight QV301 crashed on October 16 in Champassak province, Laos.
 
There is no news of survivors from the flight QV301 with 44 passengers and 5 crew onboard, according to an announcement of Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport and Lao Airlines.

44 passengers aboard: 17 Lao people, seven French, five Australians, five Thai people, three Koreans, two Vietnamese, two Chinese and one each from the United States, Malaysia, Canada.

Somphone Douangdara, CEO of Lao Airlines:

"Tragically, there do not appear to be any survivors. Only four bodies have been found while others are still in the water or in the airplane," said the CEO.

"A special team at Lao Airlines is currently working, cooperating with the authorities and the investigators from the aircraft manufacturer to identify the causes of the accidents."


Lao Ministry of Public Works and Transport:

Lao Minister of Public Works and Transport, Sommad Pholsena has dropped other official engagements and is now also making his way to the site.

The aircraft's maker, ATR:

The company said in its statement that it would "provide full assistance under international aviation rules to the investigation of the crash, working with the French safety investigation body."

The Chinese Embassy in Laos:

The embassy has confirmed that two Chinese citizens were among the dead, the Xinhua News Agency reported. 

An official at the South Korean Embassy in Bangkok:

Three South Koreans were also among the dead.

A witness told the Bangkok Post:

"I saw lifeless bodies laying about and other lifeless bodies being brought in, some connected to IV drips." "It's absolute horror."

The ATR-72 has been involved in 14 crashes worldwide since it was put into service.

Recent crash of ATR-72: 

On April 2,2012: an ATR-72 passenger plane carrying 43 people crashed in Russia's Siberia region, leaving 31 people killed and 12 others severely injured.
