The Chinese mainland has become the fastest-growing market in Asia for British vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson, which entered the market only one year ago, a company official said Tuesday in Beijing, as it eyes a bigger footprint in the mainland market for high-end vacuum cleaners.

By the end of December, Dyson will have 200 stores in 50 cities across the mainland market, compared to eight stores in several cities when the British manufacturer officially entered the market in November 2012, Udai Kunzru, Dyson's Asia president, told the Global Times.

In addition to brick-and-mortar expansion, Dyson inked a partnership deal with Chinese online retail giant jd.com in September, hoping to tap into the country's online shopping bonanza.

Kunrzu Tuesday said that Dyson's legal action against Samsung Electronics over an alleged patent infringement of steering mechanism used by Samsung's Motion Sync vacuum cleaner is still ongoing.

The British firm said in September it had launched the legal action. Samsung soon hit back after Dyson's announcement, saying the claims are groundless and will take all necessary measures to protect its own rights. Samsung's Motion Sync range was among an array of products unveiled in the company's Beijing launch.

The Global Times' efforts to reach Samsung for comment were not successful on Tuesday.

The high-end section of the mainland market for vacuum cleaners - with sales prices higher than 1,999 yuan ($328) - has continued surging growth in the third quarter of the year, rising by 74 percent year-on-year to hit 32 million yuan in retail revenues, Dong Chunming, a market researcher at research firm GfK China, said in a research report sent to the Global Times on Tuesday, citing GfK retail audit data of 53 major cities across the country.

This overshadows a growth rate of 23.6 percent year-on-year for the entire sector in the mainland, which totaled 590 million yuan in retail revenues during the same period, according to GfK's statistics.

The upscale market section has mainly been dominated by international brands so far, Dong also said in the report, but did not give a market share breakdown.

On November 4, South Korean technology company Samsung Electronics debuted its high-end vacuum cleaner products in Beijing.
