"O-mo-te-na-shi," a Japanese word meaning hospitality and another three words have been selected as 2013 Japan's buzzwords, the organizer of the award said Monday.
This year saw four terms chosen, the highest number since the award started in 1984, with the organizer saying "it was difficult to choose one over the others."
The word "O-mo-te-na-shi" was famous for being used in a presentation for Tokyo's bid to host the 2020 Olympic Games. The other top phrases were "Imadesho!" (It's now or never!), " baigaeshi" (double revenge) from a TV drama about bankers, and " jejeje," (meaning surprised).
Other words including "Abenomics," "PM2.5" and "hate speech" also ranked on the top 10 list.
