The top political advisor of Southwest China's Sichuan Province is under investigation for allegedly violating the law and regulations, the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI) said on its website on Sunday.

Li Chongxi, chairman of the Sichuan provincial committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, was investigated for suspected serious violations of discipline and law, the commission said.

Li made his last appearance on Friday when hosting a meeting of the committee, the Beijing News reported Sunday. The newspaper quoted an insider as saying that Li was sacked for violations related to economic issues.

Li has become the third official from Sichuan to have been investigated by the CCDI in the past year.

Li Chuncheng, former deputy Party chief of Sichuan Province, was removed from his position in December 2012 for serious violations of discipline. Guo Yongxiang, the chairman of Sichuan's provincial federation of literary and art circles, was investigated in June 2013.
