A 19-year-old man went in for knee surgery Tuesday at a hospital in Changchun, Jilin Province and mysteriously came out with two missing teeth.

Xu Chuang and his family are still trying to get a straight answer from doctors after a nurse emerged from the operating room holding two of his front teeth. The nurse claimed the teeth fell out as a result of the anesthetic.

The family has lodged a formal complaint with the hospital. A doctor surnamed Qi with the medical affairs department refused to answer the family's questions, stating they would reply within 5 to 10 working days.

Family members speculate that a doctor may have dropped something on Xu during the operation to knock the teeth loose.

"We came here for knee surgery. That has nothing to do with teeth. Why has the doctor extracted two big front teeth?" said Xu Jinhai, Xu's father.

Xu remained silent and did not answer questions from reporters as to his recollection of what happened in the operating room.
