Cambodian customs officers arrested two Vietnamese men at the Siem Reap International Airport Sunday night for smuggling 79.5 kg haul of illegal elephant tusks, Om Amara, deputy police chief of Siem Reap province, confirmed Monday.

Pham Quancheong, 23, and Buoy Vanteou, 45, were arrested when the customs authority found a total of 79.5 kg of ivory tusks hidden in their three luggage, he said.

"They brought those tusks from an African country and traveled to South Korea; then, flew to Cambodia before attempting to take them to Hanoi City of Vietnam," he told Xinhua, adding that it was the first time that customs police seized ivory tusks at the airport.

"The two traffickers will be charged with illegally trafficking ivory tusks," he said. "Under the Cambodian law, they could face jail term between one to five years."
