Kim Jin-Sun, president and chief executive of the Pyeongchang Organizing Committee for the Olympic Games 2018 (POCOG), said on Saturday that Pyeongchang Games will essentially begin when they receive the Olympic flag on Sunday.
"When we receive the Olympic flag tomorrow, Pyeongchang (Games) essentially begins. We will get the whole world onboard," he said.
"Our vision is very clear: new horizons, developing industries, building a hub of winter sports in Gangwon province. Our Games will also be a Games of culture, environment and peace."
Kim revealed the budget of the 2018 Games.
"The POCOG budget is 2 billion US dollars and the non-POCOG budget is 7 billion," he said.
"The non-POCOG budget is for infrastructure construction and includes private investment for venues, the transport infrastructure, including the high-speed railway. The cost is low because we have started with many existing facilities."
On security, Kim said, "South Korea is one of the world's safest countries. However, considering the special nature of the Olympics, a security committee headed by the prime minister is already in operation."
According to Kim, members of the Pyeongchang delegation have been in Sochi trying to learn from the Russian organizers.
