To avoid waste during the upcoming Two Sessions, attendees will drink from personalized water bottles marked with their names, according to a manager at the Beijing International Hotel.
The move hopes to limit the number of half-empty bottles left scattered about during National People's Congress (NPC) and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in past years.
Many members and deputies claimed they could not tell which one is theirs.
Attendees will be given another bottle only when they hand in an empty one as proof, according to the manager of the hotel, which will provide housing for out-of-town participants of the annual Two Sessions.
During the meetings, waiters will not be made available to top off water cups of the representatives. Countless used paper cups were discarded after the event in 2013, which saw more than 5,000 NPC deputies, CPPCC members and other staff.
