Two Russian alpine skiers, along with a Japanese veteran, won their first Paralympic Winter Games gold medals in Sochi on Thursday's slalom events, securing the host nation's dominance in the medal tally.

All three medals came from men's slalom events.

The result continues a memorable Games for Valerii Redkozubov, who carried Russia's flag and read the athletes' oath at the Sochi 2014 opening ceremony. The 41-year-old visually impaired skier said winning the gold medal was a special moment.

"I can't translate it into words. There's a tornado inside of me full of positive emotions. We have worked really hard for this. It was a very long, traumatic road that required much strength and work."

Russian Standing skier Alexey Bugaev has also had a Games to remember, with the 16-year-old claiming silver in the downhill and bronze in the super G.

He finished 1.27 seconds ahead of Vincent Gauthier-Manuel of France and 1.77 seconds ahead of Alexander Alyabyev of Russia, but said his efforts at Rosa Khutor are starting to wear him down.

"I was tired and all this pressure made me so nervous. I had a good first run and even small mistakes in the second could have cost me the medal," he said.

In the men's sitting competition, three-time Paralympian Takeshi Suzuki fended off the challenges of Philipp Bonadimann, Austria,, who finished second, and bronze-medallist Roman Rabl of Austria, too.

The alpine skiing competition continues on Friday with snowboard cross scheduled to commence.

With three days of competitions left, Russia dominated the medal table with 18 golds, 18 silvers and 14 bronzes, 50 in total by Thursday.

Following last day of the round-robin game Thursday, China, Britain moved into wheelchair curling semifinals at the Sochi Paralympics alongside Canada and Russia.

In the sledge hockey game, energetic Russia topped Norway and United States trumped rival Canada at Shayba Arena on Thursday to set up a group B rematch for the gold medal on Saturday.

On the same day, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced that Italian ice sledge hockey player Igor Stella has been suspended for 18 months and fined 1,125 euros for an Anti- Doping Rule violation committed at the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.
