Following last day of the round- robin game Thursday, China, Britain moved into wheelchair curling semifinals at the Sochi Paralympics alongside Canada and Russia.
China closed out a 6-3 win against Britain to secure third place in the standings and a rematch with Canada. Britain earned the fourth spot and will face Russia at the same time on Saturday.
Slovakia, with a 7-4 lose to Russia, was eliminated from semifinals contention along with Sweden and the US
China was in control from the start against Britain, scoring points in the first and second on its way to a 2-0 lead. Chinese skip Wang Haitao pushed the advantage to 5-1 by adding a third stone in the house with his final-shot draw after British skip Aileen Neilson missed a takeout attempt with her last stone.
Neilson came out of the lineup at the beginning of the fifth after shooting with just 19 percent accuracy. Gregor Ewan took over as skip from his second spot and Bob Mcpherson came in as the second.
The teams traded points in the fifth and sixth and Britain stole a point in the seventh to cut the lead to 6-3 after Wang's takeout attempt slid wide left. The Brits were unable to mount a charge in the final end and conceded the game after the 12th stone was played.
"We are much more excited now. Not as nervous, but excited. We were nervous today more than we were yesterday, but we are excited now because we are in the semifinals," Wang Haitao told reporters following the game, adding that the China still need to exercise more and get more practice before its game against Canada, which tops the current ranking.
Neilson, the British Skip, said the team was really excited to get through to the play-offs though defeated by the young Chinese athletes.
Russia and Slovakia traded points in the first four ends to enter the mid-game break knotted at 2-2. Slovakia scored in the fifth and sixth to take the two-point lead before skip Andrey Smirnov converted a draw for three in the seventh to take the lead for good.
In the eighth, Smirnov put a stone in the eight-foot and guarded it with another, and the Russians added two insurance points after Slovakian skip Radoslva Duris missed his draw attempt and accidentally knocked another Russian stone into the house.
In other games, Finland registered a five-point second to build a surprising 12-1 lead by the time front-running Canada conceded after six, while Sweden used a five-point third to easily defeat Korea 13-3 in seven ends.
The gold medal and bronze medal games will follow the semifinals, starting on Saturday.
