Huang Shyh-ming, Taiwan's chief prosecutor, was sentenced on Friday to fourteen months in prison for leaking information on a case involving the island's chief legislator.
Prosecutors said Huang briefed Taiwan leader Ma Ying-jeou twice last year during an investigation into illegal lobbying. Chief legislator Wang Jin-pyng was accused of lobbying to prevent prosecutors from appealing a not guilty verdict against Ker Chien-ming, a lawmaker from the opposition Democratic Progressive Party.
Prosecutors filed charges involving leaking classified information against Huang last November, making him the island's first chief prosecutor to stand criminal trial.
