World Curling Federation (WCF) President Kate Caithness said in Beijing Sunday that China did a fabulous job in 2008 Beijing Olympics and have no problem in hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Caithness, who is attending the 2014 men's World Curling Championship which kicked off here on Saturday, said the organizing works of the championship so far were good.
"The venue is first class. The infrastructure is in place, the ice is good, the teams are happy, we are happy," said Caithness. "Of course they have (the thing they needed to host the Winter Olympics). They did a fabulous job in 2008 Summer Olympics. They have venues here like the Water Cube that from my understanding will be the host venue for the curling. Beijing will have no problem at all hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics."
Caithness said that the good results that the Chinese team achieved in Sochi and the growth of curling in China would also help China's biding.
"So often people asked me what was the biggest surprise in Sochi and it was by far the Chinese men's team. They should have medaled. They deserved to win a medal. They were so good," said Caithness, whose first time came to Beijing was in 2005 with the International Paralympic Committee.
"The viewing figures from China for the Sochi Olympics for curling was 660 million so I think it's growing like crazy. I went to a local university in Shanghai last November for the Asia Pacific Championships and they have a two-sheet dedicated curling facility that offers year-round curling for the 400 students who are enrolled in the program," she added.
