British Foreign Office Minister Mark Simmonds on Monday slammed the continuing violence in Sudan's Darfur region, calling for peaceful dialogues to end the conflict in the region.

"I am extremely worried by the continuation of violence in Darfur..I condemn these tactics in the strongest possible terms," Simmonds said.

More than 215,000 people have been displaced due to the increasing violence in Darfur region since the beginning of 2014, the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) and the Office of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan announced in late March.

The minister attributed the rising displacement of local residents to "continued, deliberate attacks on defenseless civilians and their villages".

Stressing that there can never be a military solution to the conflict in Darfur, Simmonds called for a resolution brought about by political means.

"I urge all those involved in the conflict to lay down their arms and to engage in peaceful dialogue," he added.

Sudan's Darfur region has been witnessing a civil war since 2003 under mounting violence due to armed clashes between the Sudanese army and rebel groups in addition to tribal violence.
