An influential Islamic party in Pakistan Friday announced it is withdrawing its two ministers from the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over differences.
Two ministers from the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F) party submitted resignation from the cabinet, the party's spokesman, Jan Mohammad Achakzai said.
There is no threat to the government despite the JUI-F's ministers resignation as Prime Minister Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League enjoys a comfortable majority in the parliament.
"It was difficult for the party to stay in the government if the deadlock on policy matters was not removed," Achakzai said in a statement.
The PML-N had not taken the JUI-F into confidence over several issues including the peace dialogue with the Taliban militants, he said, citing some legislation and formation of a new National Security Policy.
Some sources, however, said differences surfaced after the government refused to give portfolios to the JUI-F ministers of their choices.
Achakzai said JUI-F ministers have submitted resignations, adding, "we are open for talks with PML-N to forge convergence on issues."
The government has not yet accepted the resignation.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is currently on a foreign tour in China and will meet the JUI-F chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman when he returns to resolve differences.
